This venture began in 2001 when Omayra de Bartlett made the decision to complete her Bachelor’s thesis in Marketing and Sales based on the creation of a handicraft company. At that time, Omayra worked country painting on wood, for which she took a basic course in matching wood at the Institute for Training and Human Development (INADEH), being the only woman in this class.
A New Beginning
In 2004 our entrepreneur moved to Panama City, however, it was a bit difficult for her to introduce the country paint product line making her work on something else, which ended up in managing the Bartlett Quiel law firm, which she still continues to do partially today. In 2019, her daughter wanted to make jewelry and began to venture into other creations, encouraging her to resume her craft business. This was the moment when the new era of Omy’s & Vicky’s Crafts officially began, developing a completely new branding and including media such as social networks.
Inspiration During the Pandemic
During the pandemic, she expanded the production line, painted personalized clay pots. He also decorated a hat for the first family trip after confinement, making such an impact that a Panamanian woman liked it and placed an order to take it to Costa Rica as a gift. This fact broadened Omayra’s vision to expand her line to start making mask holders, decorated totumas and many more ideas.
Each Piece of Art is Handmade and Special
One of the benefits at Omy’s & Vicky’s Crafts is that it works with the original and unique part of each piece, which must be handmade and special. Each art piece is different, it has a different touch, and she likes to personalize it to create authenticity. The works are made in wood (chests, signs, bottle openers, decorated tablets, shoemakers, etc). She also works pumpkins for decoration, hanging pots, lamps, candle holders, birdhouses, etc. She also paints custom clay pots, hand-sewn and decorated hats, jewelry in general and resin (key rings, ring holders, jewelry holders).
Inspiration Born from Each Client
The most inspiring thing for this entrepreneurship is to work on personalized art pieces, especially when clients ask for details, requests for household things that distinguish them, paint pots with their pets whether they are alive and even as a memory when they have passed away. What satisfies Omayra the most is reaching customer expectations and even exceeding them, making each piece or product something very special.
A Promising Future
As a future project, Omayra is working to have her own store with the Omy’s & Vicky’s Crafts workshop. A place that will help people learn more about the business, facilitate sales and inspire other Panamanians to start their own businesses.
She is also considering covering other product areas, continuing to imagine other creations. For this entrepreneur, imagination has no limits, and even more so when customers are the ones who open horizons.
Capable and Empowered Women
In this women’s month, Omayra reflects and feels that the role of women is increasing in human quality and professionalism. Every day they are force to prove to themselves and to others that they are capable of empowering their lives and benefiting from their talents, both financially, for fulfillment and self-improvement. For her, it is a time that demands more dedication and tenacity from women.
