It is a privileged place, of many natural beauties and historical importance. The visitor can enjoy beaches and both ecotourism and marine activities. Nombre de Dios is located in Costa Arriba de Colón, at three and a half hours driving from Panama City.

Where Camino Real Began

It is a town and port on the Caribbean Sea founded by the Spanish explorer Diego de Nicuesa in 1510, being one of the first towns of the Spanish colony in the American continent. It became the first port on the mainland for the fleet of Indians, and an important part of the Philippines Route, which allowed the construction of an 80-kilometer stone road from Nombre de Dios to Panama City.

This is where the “Camino Real” was born, a road that enables the transport of gold and products between the Spanish Colonies, Peru, the Mulatas Islands and Spain. During the years of the economic boom, Nombre de Dios was attacked and burned by the famous English pirate Francis Drake in 1572, which allowed the City of Portobelo to later become the Atlantic terminal of “Camino Real”.
