Guatemala is a destination that greatly welcomes Visitors, its Spanish architecture, indigenous peoples, Mayan archaeological discoveries, local art and its natural beauties such as Lake Atitlan, make them return many times.

Antigua Guatemala, Heritage of Colonial History

The first stop is in Antigua, a magical place full of Spanish colonial architecture that transports the Visitor to 1542 when it was founded. However, its inhabitants had to move to what is now Guatemala City after a series of earthquakes, especially the strongest one in 1773.

Today, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has several restored monuments and historical buildings. One of the most amazing ones is the Arco de Santa Catalina built in 1600 and is one of the most beautiful structures in all of Central America. Antigua also has many art galleries where it is possible to enjoy local talent and its history.

Lake Atitlan, a Natural Paradise full of Culture

Very close to Antigua is Lake Atitlan, a unique place in the world as it is located inside a huge volcano crater. It is well known for its natural beauties, and the Mayan town around the lake. Each town has its own unique beauty as it also has street art, which gives a unique charisma when walking through its streets. These towns can be visited by taxi boats, since many villages do not have street access. For panoramic photography lovers, Lake Atitlan is one of the most beautiful places to photograph in the entire region.

One of the exceptional experiences is how women do Back-strap Weaving, a Mayan tradition that is hundreds of years old and produces beautiful textiles that can be purchased in these towns.

Chichicastenango, Bastion of Indigenous Culture

Visiting Guatemala should include a visit to the town of Chichicastenango, one of the most interesting Mayan villages in all of Guatemala. At a distance of three hours by road from Guatemala City, this place has one of the largest indigenous markets, famous for its enormous diversity of agricultural products and crafts. Likewise, the Church of Santo Tomas is an must place to visit due to its history and the coexistence between Catholic traditions and Mayan rituals. This is because the Church was built on the remains of a Mayan temple, where each step of the stairs leading to the Church represents the months of the Mayan calendar.

Tikal, a Place that Dazzles with its History

A tour through Guatemala is completed only by visiting Tikal, a place with an extensive and deep history of Mayan history. Located northwest of Guatemala City, every Visitor is amazed by the impressive nature of its temples surrounded by a lush jungle. The temples represent the classic Mayan period between 200 and 900 AD. Although further away compare to the other sites, this site leaves an indelible mark in the memory of every Visitor.

Visiting Guatemala is just two and a half hours from Panama by direct flight from the Tocumen airport.
