New Chitre Convention Center, a Key Element in the Development of Business Events Tourism in Panama

It is a project that has generated great expectations throughout the business and tourism sector in the central provinces due to its potential economic impact. This is because this convention center, which will soon open its doors in Chitre City, will require the use of all the hotel infrastructure, gastronomic circuit, shopping centers, transportation, and a greater diversity of services throughout the area.

Region with Great Commercial and Logistic Growth

The decision to build this great infrastructure in this region of Herrera Province is due to the great commercial boom that it has had by having shopping centers and a wide range of hotels such as Cubita, which has its meeting center, and the Azuero Hotel, which also has its own convention center. Likewise, the number of rooms available in the provinces of Herrera, Los Santos and Veraguas is approximately 1,681, and also adding the proximity to hotels on the Pacific Riviera.

New Tourist Engine of the Central Region

This Chitre Convention Center will be an additional tourist engine for the Azuero region, since the meetings industry generates a large mobilization of Visitors thank to the organization of large-scale events.

Herrera, being a destination with cultural, agricultural and natural characteristics, has great potential to attract events related to these economic segments, which will generate a great demand for both land and air mobility, as it has daily flights from Monday to Thursday from Panama City with plane capacity of 50 passengers and a flight time of only 30 minutes.

Likewise, this convention center will be an open door for tourist destinations in the region such as Montuoso, Las Tablas, La Villa de Los Santos, Pedasi, Playa Venao and Playa Cambutal, among others.

Key Element in the National MICE Tourism Strategy

The new Convention Center in Chitre is an important addition to the infrastructure that Panama has in the development of the convention, incentive and business tourism strategy according to the Sustainable Tourism Master Plan.

This venue will have an auditorium that will accommodate 800 people, as well as exhibition halls with more than 1,500 square meters. A big enough space that can family accommodate more than 1,000 people at the same time depending on the assembly of the event.

The construction of this vital infrastructure for the central provinces and the country is almost 100% complete and its official opening is scheduled for May of this year 2023.
