Puerto Baru Project, Still with Doubts about Reforestation and Conditioning of the River

This project is a private investment of a multimodal, tourist, agricultural and logistics nature that promises to become the most important private investment in the western region of Panama, taking advantage of the tourist and productive diversities of the province to connect them in a sustainable way at a global level.

An initiative of US investors who plan to connect products and experiences through sea routes, becoming the only Pacific port between the Panama Canal and Costa Rica.

The Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) warned in its Technical Report DICOMAR 011-2023, that Puerto Baru, due to ships dimensions (Panamax) will require the conditioning of the river through dredging and then, a maintenance program to achieve established depths of 12 meters. In addition, no further details are given about mangrove reforestation.
