International Museum Day, Empowers Cultural Exchange and Enrichment

Museums are places that invite you to learn more about different topics, there are many and of various themes. Without a doubt, the most famous are the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and El Prado in Madrid. These important places celebrate a special day every year.

Celebration with More than 158 Participating Countries

Since 1977, every May 18, International Museum Day is celebrated, with the active participation of around 37,000 museums and more than 158 countries around the world. The world day aims to raise awareness about the importance of museums for cultural exchange and enrichment.

The Power of Museums

Since this day was created by the International Council of Museums, a different theme is proposed each year. This 2022 the motto is “The Power of Museums”, which will promote these cultural venues as incomparable places of discovery that teach about the past and open the mind to new ideas. Topics that this day will cover will be: the power of achieving sustainability, the power of innovation in digitization and accessibility and the power of community building through education.

Today, museums have transformed their practices to get closer to communities, exploring innovative ways of tackling contemporary social problems and positioning themselves as platforms for collective participation in which creativity is combined with knowledge, and where visitors can take on a leading role.

Panamanian Museums

In Panama, museums such as the one in Old Panama, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of History of Panama, Museum of Freedom and Human Rights, MOLA Museum and the Museum of Biodiversity work to rescue and promote history and Panamanian identity in a world with fewer barriers. In December of this year, the main area of ​​the Anthropological Museum will reopen in Plaza 5 de Mayo, where nearly 600 pieces will be displayed. An architectural monument with more than 100 years of history that housed the great Panama railway station and will reopen entirely in 2023.
