An Idea Born from Experience

In 2012, Donna, a Caniwi (Canadian – New Zealander) moved from New Zealand to Panama and a few years later, started a business in the tourism industry on the Amador Causeway.

The business had fantastic staff and received only 5-star reviews. One of the team members was Richie Gomez. He had extensive experience in marketing, website development and video production. His talents have helped to shape the future of Amábili.

In 2018, the business pivoted and the focus became helping other companies attract customers through creating marketing campaigns, games, events and commercial alliances. However, it became apparent that there was a gap between the level of customer service expected by visitors to Panama and what was being delivered. Panama needed to raise the bar.

The Spark of Good Service Starts in New Zealand

Recognising that they were helping businesses in the wrong way, they identified the missing ingredient and set about changing the culture of customer service.

In New Zealand this was done through a programme called “Kiwi Host”, introduced in the late 1980’s by the New Zealand Tourism Board. Since then, nearly a quarter of a million New Zealanders have completed this training, spanning every imaginable industry. The result? A reputation for being friendly, hospitable and kind people.
