Isla Gobernadora, a Natural and Exuberant Beauty in the Veraguas Pacific Area

Gobernadora Island is located at the mouth of the Gulf of Montijo, a place with calm waters, where dolphins frolic at their whim and humpback whales swim along its shores, lost at times among the green velvet and deep blue sea, for the delight of the eyes of those people who like to gaze at the ocean. Located exactly north of Cebaco Island, between the Golfo of Montijo international wetland  and the Coiba National Park. The island is often overlooked by tourists, yet it is a very beautiful place that offers secluded white sand beaches and dense forests on the mainland.

Plenty of Beaches to Relax

Gobernadora Island is at a 30-minute boat ride from the surf town of Santa Catalina in the Veraguas Province. On one side of the island, there is a small but structured fishing village, which is close to some extremely beautiful natural areas. In the surroundings of the island you can find both white sand beaches and black sand beaches, and they are so wide and private that the visitor will never feel overwhelmed by crowds of people. You can also snorkel in selected areas, one of the Visitors’ favorite activities.

Trails, Nature and Activities

You can also go diving, camping, sport fishing, boat trips, handicraft and ceramic workshops, or simply relax on a hammock accompanied by the unstoppable symphony of birds, some examples of what this place offers.

Currently there is only one hotel available on the island that is managed by a French couple and is naturally integrated in the middle of a 17 hectares area that extends from the seashore to the hills, trails and the jungle, inside the island.

Beyond the Island

Off the border and south of Gobernadora Island is Cebaco Island, a huge island with excellent surfing opportunities, crystal clear waters, and healthy coral reefs. The famous Santa Catalina break points are just a short boat ride away, and the Coiba National Park is also nearby where there are a lots of activities to do.
