Sugar and Spice Dulces Gourmet, a Delicious Experience for the Senses

On Boquete’s main street there is a place where the delicious smells of baking bread and freshly brewed coffee attract that welcomes each Visitor. Sugar & Spice Dulces Gourmet is a bakery that offers breakfast and lunch, as well as Tex-Mex specialties daily.

Richard and Yarina Story

Richard, a studied and trained chef, Yarina, an international relations professional, both decided to open Sugar & Spice Dulces Gourmet in 2009. The combination of knowledge and experiences helped created one of the most visited and loved places in Boquete.

This couple together with their 18 collaborators work with passion and inspiration every day to create new products and recipes that surprise their customers palate. Likewise, as their everyday philosophy, they support many local companies and farmers, as well as numerous charitable organizations in Boquete and surrounding areas.

Pleasing all Tastes

In Sugar & Spice each Visitor always finds something delicious to eat, they have a complete breakfast menu where you can select between waffles, eggs, burritos, sandwiches and pancakes. Lunches are not far behind with a menu that offers hamburgers, cheeseburgers, nachos, tacos and salads of various styles for those who want to eat light. You can also enjoy menus with specialties of Mexican cuisine and vegetarian dishes.

Delicious Delicacies

Sugar & Spice Dulces Gourmet specializes in European artisan breads, cakes, pies, muffins, brownies, cookies and empanadas, all artisan made. Special cakes, tarts, Danish pastries, croissants and other delicacies prepared at the request and taste of each client.

Here everyone is proud to serve the best gourmet coffee in the area, one of the most requested beverages by customers. However, they also offer hot tea, soft drinks, bottled water, juices, hot chocolate, specialty coffee and fresh fruit flavored smoothies.

Artisan Elaboration that Elevates Quality

At Sugar & Spice Dulces Gourmet, the bread is made using traditional European techniques. A process that requires time and the right ingredients so that each Visitor feels the unique flavor between the breads of this gourmet bakery versus the rest in the area.

All breads are made with natural ingredients; they don’t use preservatives, artificial flavors or conditioners. Naturally, artisan breads stay fresh for a few days if stored correctly.

For this reason, Richard and Yarina recommend that each customer place the bread in a sealed plastic bag and store it in either the refrigerator or freezer so that freshness is kept, even after two days of purchase. When eaten, (if frozen, thaw first) just preheat the oven to 350F or 175C and bake the bread for 10 to 15 minutes. By following these instructions, your bread will have a crispy crust and moist interior, just like it had come fresh from the Sugar & Spice Gourmet sweets oven.

Fresh Ingredients, the Key to Amazing Flavor

For Sugar & Spice Dulces Gourmet creating cakes that delight when you see them is only part of the process; making it taste really good is an even bigger challenge. For Richard and Yarina, the key is to obtain the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Ingredients such as chocolate, fresh dairy products, fresh seasonal fruits, grains and other dry products are purchased only in the necessary quantity, ensuring their freshness.

Specialties that Tempt Your Palate

If everything that has been described already sounds tempting, the following list is the star of the house, gourmet pastries like the famous New York-style cheesecake, vegetable quiche, apple pie or blackberries, chocolate cake, three milks, cupcakes and brownies, with various flavors of cookies.

And if you want to eat a pastry or bread that is not on the menu, Sugar & Spice Dulces Gourmet can make almost any dessert or cake you want. You just have to request it well in advance so that Richard and Yarina get the best ingredients in Boquete or elsewhere.
