Los Cajones de Chame, an Adventure Surrounded by Amazing Rock Formations Located in West Panama

West Panama Province is famous for its beautiful beaches and coastal hotels, however, it boasts a natural site that impresses every visitor, both local and foreign. A place that now has road access, allowing all tourists to reach it easily and safely.

Located just under two hours from Panama City, Los Cajones de Chame is proof that Panama offers different experiences in a natural setting that invites everyone to enjoy it.

Centuries of Sedimentation that Create a Unique Place

Los Cajones de Chame is a canyon created by years of erosion by the Chame River. This was due to centuries of rock sedimentation, which created a steep canyon hundreds of meters long. This canyon is similar and larger than Los Cangilones de Gualaca in the Chiriqui Province, which has been more famous due to its accessibility.

An Adrenaline-Filled Adventure

Anyone looking for a good adrenaline rush should cliff jump at Los Cajones de Chame. This natural wonder offers a variety of jumps to choose from, ranging from 3 meters, 5 meters, and 6 meters. It’s very important to always check that the water is deep enough and that there are no rocks or debris where you’ll jump. Most people end up jumping many more times because it’s so fun and safe when done with proper precautions.

Swimming Through the Canyon and Exploring

Another activity that visitors enjoy the most is swimming in the waters along the entire canyon. Los Cajones de Chame narrows at several points and rises to great heights, making it an exciting experience to observe the incredible rock formations while calmly navigating the channel.

After swimming and cliff jumping, another activity to try is exploring the surrounding area, where you can find small rock pools, sitting areas, caves, and even waterfalls. A place full of adventures that allow visitors to connect with nature.

It’s truly an adventurous place to spend the day with friends and family.

An Easy-to-Access Experience

In the past, reaching this natural wonder required leaving your car far away and then walking along a trail. Today, a paved road in perfect condition allows visitors to drive to the Cajones de Chame and park in the parking lots (parking fees will likely begin to apply, as they are private land) just 15 meters from the staircase that descends into the canyon itself.

This natural amusement park doesn’t have any places to eat or seating, just beautiful rock formations, large cliffs, and refreshing water. For this reason, it’s recommended to bring everything you need for a fun-filled and relaxing day.
