Isla Colon, Tourism Hub in Bocas del Toro, with Beautiful Beaches, Gastronomy, Entertainment and Exuberant Nature

Bocas del Toro is a stunning archipelago located in the Caribbean Sea, on the northern side of the Isthmus of Panama. This group of islands were discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1545, which is why it has its name, and was initially used as a place of refuge and repair of ships during the times of the Spanish colony.

Isla Colon, the Epicenter of the Bocas del Toro Archipelago

This island is where most of the hotels, restaurants, bars, tour operators and businesses are located. This is where you will find the most lively and festive atmosphere, full of lush beaches and stunning nature. Likewise, this is where tourists arrive as it has the Bocas del Toro International Airport, where direct flights arrive from Panama City.

Bocas Town, Where Gastronomy and Entertainment are Located

Bocas Town is the name of the urban center of the island and although it is where all the fun is, it is an easy place to get around whether on foot or by bicycle. In the center you find Simon Bolivar Park, where you can find people selling food and crafts.

Here it is possible to explore artisan shops, enjoy live music in the restaurants on the sea, as well as downtown. The quality and variety of food that can be found is surprising for such a small town. The restaurants on the sea offer happy hours in the afternoons and at night it lights up with the numerous bars and clubs.

Golden Sands and Surf at Bluff Beach

Bluff Beach is famous for its lush golden sand, surrounding jungle, as well as its beachfront restaurants. A magical place where it is still possible to find private and relaxing spots. Here it is also possible to enjoy surfing thanks to the impressive waves that are visited by athletes of this sporting discipline from all over the world. This beach is also an important nesting area for different species of sea turtles and ideal for horseback riding.

Boca del Drago, Estrella Beach and Bird Island

Boca del Drago is an ideal beach for snorkeling or enjoying a relaxing day on the beach. More beachfront restaurants offering fresh seafood and unique local cuisine are also located here. From this site you can walk to Playa Estrella, a place where you can observe (without touching them, since it can die affecting the ecosystem) giant starfish while snorkeling in its crystal clear waters. And if you want to live a boat adventure, you can take a boat trip to Isla Pajaros, a paradise for bird watching, as seabirds such as terns, frigates, shearwaters and seagulls are found around the island. It is also the only place in Panama where you can find the red-billed tropic bird.

How to get to Isla Colon?
