Cambutal, Ecotourism Destination with a Lifestyle that Connects with Nature, the Community and Surf

Among the main destinations in Panama that little by little has been growing as a great ecotourism destination is Cambutal, at Los Santos Province. This small beach town on the Pacific coast of the Azuero Peninsula offers a mix of natural beauty, relaxation and activities.

A Charming Simpler and a Balanced Lifestyle

Cambutal has a calm and balanced lifestyle, focused on well-being, community and connection with nature. Unlike the hustle and bustle of urban centers, in this community people prioritize outdoor living, sustainability and personal well-being.

People who live and visit this destination start the day with surf sessions, yoga classes on the beach and at night enjoy a delicious seafood meal at several of the local restaurants.

Connection with Nature

Another important reason why Cambutal attracts many Visitors is its emphasis on sustainable living. The town is surrounded by lush jungles and pristine beaches, offering the opportunity to experience nature up close. Cerro Hoya Park is a site full of fauna, flora and waterfalls that can be visited with tour guides or by yourself.

A Destination That Attracts Digital Nomads

With the rise of remote work, more and more people find themselves without geographical ties. This is the reason why Cambutal has become a point of attraction for digital nomads and entrepreneurs who are looking for a place to visit for longer periods, where they can continue working and at the same time enjoy the benefits of living next to the beach. This is because Cambutal offers reliable Internet connections, as well as Co-working places where you can meet with a growing community of expats.

Surfers Destination and Ideal Place for Fishing

Surfing is still one of the main reasons why many people visit this destination. The waves are good and with few people. Most break either on the reef or on the beach. Tourists who arrive without a surfboard can rent one at one of the nearby hotels.

Fishing at Playa Cambutal is also very good. That’s because the seafloor dips steeply beyond the coastline, creating an area that is ideal for many large fish, including roosterfish, wahoo, tuna, marlin and grouper.

Whale, Dolphin and Turtle Watching

The coasts of Cambutal are visited by large and beautiful marine species. In its waters you can see humpback whales arriving to reproduce and have their new calves between the months of July and October.

Every year, thousands of green turtles, olive ridleys, hawksbills and leatherbacks visit this beach to lay their eggs. The residents of the area ensure that the nesting and birth process of the small turtles is as natural and pleasant as possible.

Boat rides also offer the opportunity to watch dolphins, who have fun showing off their skills jumping in front of the Visitors boats.

How to get to Cambutal?

This ecotourism paradise can be reached by car, since it is an hour and a half from Pedasi and 5 and a half hours from Panama City. It is also possible to travel by plane to Pedasi, and then arrive by car or bus.
