The Tea Route in Boquete, a Healthy Tourist Experience, Unique in Central America

Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world, above coffee, beer or Coca-Cola (not counting water of course). There are four types of tea: white, red, green and black. Each one has different properties and a different origin, but for a long time this drink has triumphed throughout the planet.

One of the Oldest Drinks

According to a Chinese legend, tea came from the hand of Emperor Shen-Nung, who lived about 5,000 years ago. One day, the emperor was sitting under the shade of a tree to rest and boil water, as was his custom, when some leaves from that tree accidentally fell into the water.

The emperor tasted the fortuitous tea and felt comforted, so he immediately had seeds of that wild tree planted. And with it, tea was born, in the year 2,737 BC, according to Chinese legend.

Seven Benefits of Tea

▪ It has antioxidants, which are the source of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Thanks to its multiple properties, it delays the aging process. They safeguard cells and tissues against free radicals.

▪ Protects the immune system. Tea has a high amount of flavonoids and vitamin H, helping the body’s defenses work and avoid cell damage.

▪ Reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It prevents blood clotting which is one of the causes of vascular accidents and heart attacks. Although there is no scientific evidence, it has been shown that there is a relationship between the consumption of tea and the decrease in the appearance of these diseases.
