The Reina Torre de Arauz Museum will Reopen in 2022

The Reina Torres de Araúz Museum, located on Plaza 5 de Mayo premises and which was originally the Panama City railway station, is in the process of being restored.

Currently, a work that is currently being carried out by the CEN Consortium. Marta Museum restoration is in progress for an amount of $ 14.7 million, financed with funds from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

This Museum has been closed to the public for more than two decades, and a whole generation that has not been able to fully appreciate the cultural heritage that its own country offers. For this reason, the renovation that is being carried out has the objective of returning to all Panamanians the pride of their national heritage.

A Museum with All that is Needed

The conservation and restoration actions of this museum include four permanent exhibition rooms and two temporary exhibition rooms, auditoriums, two cafeterias, “souvenir” shops, elevators that comply with universal accessibility, urbanization of the environment, a special shelter building to keep the preserved pieces and the new museography that is the last part of this renovation.

The special shelter building will be underground and will house some 15,000 arqueological pieces, the most important collection in the entire country. The goal is to preserve, receive and maintain each of the valuable pieces so that they do not wear out over time, as well as to continue with research and the restoration of pieces.

The museum will have a room dedicated to Dr. Reina Torres de Arauz, where documents and personal items will be exhibited enhancing her professional and personal life.

The idea of ​​this project is to integrate the museum with the craft market to create an attractive environment and a tour for tourist.

The civil work is projected to finish in the last quarter of 2022.
