Parita Celebrates its Foundation and Patron Saint Festival

Patron Saint Festival (Patronales)
Every year, when it comes the anniversary of the death of Santo Domingo de Guzman, is the starting point of the celebrations of their Patron Saint of this traditional town. This 2020 the town celebrates 462 years of this Patron Saint. However, due to the current world situation, it will not be possible to celebrate in person, an eight-day celebration full of cultural expressions. Usually the procession of the colonial image of the Patron Saint adorned with flowers and lights is one of the most emblematic activities. Fireworks exalt the hearts of all the locals and Visitors during religious activities. Once these activities are over, a barrier around the town square is installed for people to enjoy bullfighting, a heritage from the Spanish.

Foundation Celebration
The municipal authorities of Parita adopted August 18, as the day of Foundation of Parita District, a date is celebrated with joy by its citizens. The celebration usually includes a Civic Act at the Municipal Palace, where an activity program is developed, in which the official speaker illustrates the attendees with historical dissertations. After this act, a great wagons parade begins, an activity which has been taking place since 1937. All the wagons are pulled by oxen and decorated with indigenous motifs. During this day children, youth and adults go out to celebrate on the streets of this beautiful Azuero town enjoying dances, artistic presentations and local gastronomy.
