Expo Turismo, a showcase of Panama to the world

Expo Turismo, Panama’s annual travel-industry trade show, will put the country’s tourism-sector service providers in touch with buyers from North America, Europe and China at the Atlapa Convention Center from Friday, May 24 to Saturday, May 25.

Attendees will be received by 100 expositors representing Panama’s wide array of tourism products, with special deals on tour packages, hotel stays and other travel-related services. The groups of buyers number 200 and hail from 40 countries, including Canada, the United States, Spain, France, Italy and Mexico. With the recent cooperation agreements in place with China, buyers from that country will be in attendance in greater numbers. The event, in its 10th year, is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (CCIAP), Panama’s Tourism Authority (ATP) and the National Chamber of Tourism (CAMTUR) with cooperation from the Panamanian Association of Hotels (APATEL) and Copa Airlines.

This type of public-private partnership helps to bring the sector forward, said Antonio Alfaro, President of CAMTUR, who stressed the competition Panama faces from similar markets like the Caribbean, Costa Rica and Colombia at the press conference announcing the expo. Gabriel Barletta, President of CCIAP, expects the event to help generate a muchneeded economic boost for the sector. For his part, Gustavo Him, the outgoing ATP Minister, said the long-term vision is for Expo Turismo to become a showcase for the entire region.

Expo Turismo caters to tourism-industry professionals, but its doors will open to the general public on Saturday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., to give you access to many great offers on domestic and international travel. Plus, live folklore presentations are scheduled, so you can plan your next vacation in style. Admission to the event is $4. For more go to Expotur.org.
