Among the organization’s flagship initiatives is “The Earth School”, a space guided by the “One Health” philosophy, which recognizes the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health. Gaia Ecoversity promotes a holistic approach that integrates conservation, education, and responsible tourism. Its Guardians of Gaia movement empowers women in conservation and community-based tourism initiatives, recognizing their role as transmitters of knowledge, traditions, and biodiversity.
This is complemented by Climate Action initiatives, including reforestation and environmental education programs integrated with volunteer experiences. All of this converges on a vision focused on ecotourism and building sustainable communities, where the protection of natural resources, the appreciation of local culture, and the fair distribution of benefits allow for the creation of authentic, educational, and environmentally friendly experiences.
The Vision Behind Gaia Ecoversity
At the helm of the organization is Ericka Arosemena, Executive Director and founder of Gaia Ecoversity. An entrepreneur and advocate for a balanced life, she has traveled to various countries, living with ancestral and rural communities and deepening her understanding of human and natural ecosystems.
She holds master’s degrees in Sustainable Development, Environmental Management, and International Relations; a Bachelor’s degree in Ecotourism; and certifications as a Naturalist Guide and Higher Education Teaching Specialist. With over 15 years of experience in academia, advising on bio sustainable projects, environmental coaching, and researching tropical environments, Ericka is the driving force behind an organization that continues to grow and make a positive impact through its projects.
Projects that Generate Well-being and Environmental Conservation
Permaculture for Life in Cermeño
In Cermeño, a community in the Penonome area, Gaia Ecoversity implements organic permaculture models that strengthen local food sovereignty and become an attraction for those seeking experiential and regenerative tourism.
Bird and Lepidoptera Conservation in Cerro Guacamaya
In the Cerro Guacamaya Water Reserve, conservation and sustainable breeding programs for lepidoptera are being developed. This project contributes to forest protection, generates community income, and attracts birdwatchers and wildlife lovers.

Gaia Ecoversity has a rural campus in downtown Penonome—the Gaia Eco-village—and a new location on the ecotourism route to El Valle de Anton: Gaia Wellness & Discovery. This place is a vibrant haven where nature, wellness, and awareness converge. An oasis of peace, where visitors explore sustainable practices and find inspiration to live in harmony with the planet.
