Located in Cerro Plata, Veraguas province, the Altos del Platanal Agrotourism Farm offers an experience where nature, agricultural production, education, and well-being come together to showcase the best of Panamanian rural life. Managed by Roberto Gonzalez, the farm was recognized in 2025 by the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) as the Best Agrotourism Farm.
Nature, Plantations, and Recreation
Altos del Platanal invites visitors to explore its coffee plantations—featuring Caturra, Obata, Catuai, and Robusta varieties—as well as crops of plantains, Taiwanese guava, citrus fruits, and other species. Its nursery houses nearly 2,000 ornamental, medicinal, and aromatic plants. Trail tours allow visitors to learn about the crops and agricultural projects, while tilapia ponds offer the chance to enjoy recreational fishing.
For family enjoyment, the farm features a children’s playground and a soccer field. Las Piedras Park, situated at the property’s highest point, provides an ideal setting for meditation, yoga, prayer, or simply relaxing in touch with nature while taking in the landscape of Cerro Plata.
Its commitment to sustainability includes the exclusive use of organic fertilizers for crops, agricultural production, and support for local farmers, students, and community workers. Approximately 40% of the farm is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Dining and Accommodation to Enjoy
The experience at Finca Altos del Platanal is complemented by national and international cuisine, prepared in a kitchen that also serves an educational purpose by training local staff.
Guests can stay and choose from rooms starting at $30.00 per night (accommodating four – five guests) or a standard cabin for $60.00 per night (accommodating five guests). A new cabin with space for up to seven people is also available.
