In the mountains of Chiriqui, coffee becomes much more than just a beverage: it is landscape, tradition, biodiversity, and a sensory experience. Between Boquete and Tierras Altas, several estates open their doors to introduce visitors to the world of specialty coffee—covering everything from cultivation and processing to tasting some of Panama’s most prized varieties.

Cafe Altieri in Boquete
Located in the Los Naranjos area of Boquete, Cafe Altieri produces coffee across two properties. At Pipim Estate, they grow Caturra and Catuai, while at Mima Estate in Alto Quiel, they cultivate Typica, Catuai, Bourbon, and Geisha.
Their tourism offering combines nature with coffee expertise. Experiences include scenic tours of the plantations and the operations center, explanations regarding cultivation and processing, and—depending on the package—guided tastings featuring three or six flavor profiles, including Geisha.
Janson Farm in Volcan
Located in Volcan, in the Tierras Altas (Highlands) region, Janson Coffee cultivates its crops at altitudes ranging from approximately 1,350 to 1,700 meters, surrounded by an extensive private nature reserve. They produce Green Tip Geisha, Catuai, Caturra, and Pacamara varieties, offering both washed and natural Geisha coffees, as well as Natural Pacamara and Janson Family Coffee. (Janson Coffee)

Visitors can choose between tours covering production, processing, and roasting, or a tasting experience. The visit can continue at their Coffee House, where guests can enjoy views of Baru Volcano while sampling coffee brewed using various methods.
Elida Farm in Boquete
Situated in Alto Quiel, Boquete, Elida Farm is a family-owned property belonging to the Lamastus family, who have been coffee producers since 1918. Their crops are grown at altitudes between 1,670 and 1,950 meters—according to the farm’s specific profile—and their production includes Catuai, Geisha, and Typica varieties.
They offer experiences that allow visitors to walk through the plantations and learn about the processing facility and coffee production, culminating in a tasting session that may feature Catuai, Geisha, and cascara (coffee cherry) tea. Available options include “El Plano,” “La Torre,” and “Meet the Producer.”

Don Pepe Estate Coffee in Boquete
Located in Volcancito, Boquete—on the slopes of the Baru Volcano—Don Pepe Estate Coffee upholds a family coffee-growing tradition dating back to 1898. Situated at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,000 meters, the estate cultivates varieties such as Geisha, Java, Pacamara, Bourbon, Typica, Catuai, and Caturra.
Their coffee tour offers insight into the estate’s history and production processes, concluding with a coffee tasting. Two tours are currently offered daily.
Lamastus Family Estates in Boquete
Lamastus Family Estates is not a single farm but a family-run group comprising Elida Estate, El Burro Estate, and Luito Geisha Estate. Their properties are located in the mountains of Boquete and are renowned for specialty coffees grown in high-altitude environments.
The visitor experience centers primarily on Elida Estate, where guests can tour the plantations and the processing mill, learn about coffee production, and participate in tastings. The “La Torre & Meet the Producer” option also offers the chance to meet producer Wilford Lamastus and tour various lots across the estate.
