Igualmente, ha sido pieza clave en el crecimiento del aeropuerto de Tocumen como \u201chub&#8221; de las Am\u00e9ricas y nuestro turismo paname\u00f1o. Graduado del College of the Holy Cross en Worcester Massachussetrs, con una licenciatura en econom\u00eda y de la Universidad de Washington con una Maestr\u00eda en administraci\u00f3n de empresas, Pedro Heilbron logr\u00f3 convertir una aerol\u00ednea de s\u00f3lo dos aviones en 1988 a una con 111 de las m\u00e1s modernas aeronaves de pasajeros hoy en d\u00eda. Nuestro invitado est\u00e1 repleto de reconocimientos internacionales y en esta entrevista nos habla de su perspectiva de la aviaci\u00f3n y el turismo nacional.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfSiendo el\nl\u00edder de la aerol\u00ednea con mayor crecimiento en la regi\u00f3n, qu\u00e9 estrategia\nemplear\u00eda Panam\u00e1 para lograr un mayor liderazgo en la aviaci\u00f3n\ncontinental?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLa industria a\u00e9rea en nuestra regi\u00f3n se ha tornado\nmucho m\u00e1s competitiva desde el inicio de la pandemia. En este sentido, hemos\nvisto un incremento en vuelos punto a punto que compiten con Panam\u00e1, al evitar\nla necesidad de hacer conexiones en hubs como el que operamos en el Aeropuerto\nInternacional de Tocumen. Tambi\u00e9n, hubs competidores a Panam\u00e1 en ciudades de la\nregi\u00f3n llevan a cabo importantes inversiones para mejorar su posicionamiento.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPara que Panam\u00e1 pueda retener su liderazgo en\nconectividad y asegurar que la aviaci\u00f3n, incluyendo el turismo que llega por\nv\u00eda a\u00e9rea, vuelva a contribuir m\u00e1s del 14% del PIB, es indispensable promover\nuna industria a\u00e9rea competitiva, asegurar un Aeropuerto de Tocumen atractivo y\neficiente, y llevar a cabo las acciones para aumentar la llegada de turistas y\nviajeros de negocio al pa\u00eds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pedro_heilbron01.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7356\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>El precio en\nlos vuelos define&nbsp;o determina los nuevos grupos de personas que visitan\nlos distintos destinos. Como COPA tambi\u00e9n es due\u00f1a de Wingo, y pronto una nueva\naerol\u00ednea se avecina, \u00bfcu\u00e1l es el futuro de este nuevo segmento y c\u00f3mo\nafrontar\u00e1n la competencia?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTanto Copa como Wingo somos subsidiarias de Copa\nHoldings y nos comercializamos de forma independiente.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEn Copa Airlines, tenemos una estrategia clara que\nnos permite competir con \u00e9xito ante nuestros diversos competidores. Como parte\nde esta estrategia, procuramos operar con los costos m\u00e1s bajos posibles,\npromoviendo la b\u00fasqueda de eficiencias y productividad en todo lo que hacemos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPor otra parte, tambi\u00e9n somos obsesivos con la\npuntualidad y el cumplimiento. Un reflejo de esto es que en 2021 fuimos la\naerol\u00ednea m\u00e1s puntual de Am\u00e9rica, por 8vo a\u00f1o consecutivo. La puntualidad,\ncombinado con nuestra extensa red de rutas desde el Hub de las Am\u00e9ricas\u00ae en\nPanam\u00e1 nos ha permitido ser la aerol\u00ednea preferida para millones de pasajeros\ndel Continente Americano.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPor su parte, Wingo es una aerol\u00ednea del modelo de\nultra bajo costo, pero a la vez se diferencian por su buena onda, algo que les\nha ganado la preferencia de sus pasajeros. Como mencione antes, Wingo se maneja\nde forma independiente a Copa y tiene una atractiva oferta en base a sus\ntarifas y destinos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 planes\ntiene COPA para apoyar la estrategia de turismo sostenible que la ATP est\u00e1\nejecutando?&nbsp; \u00bfY si ya lo est\u00e1 realizando que viene realizando?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHemos trabajado por muchos a\u00f1os de forma consistente con las Autoridades de turismo y, ahora, tambi\u00e9n con PROMTUR para potenciar a Panam\u00e1 como destino tur\u00edstico. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actualmente, mantenemos una inversi\u00f3n importante con\nel programa de STOPOVER en Panam\u00e1, el cual ofrece un incentivo para que los\nmiles de pasajeros que transitan anualmente por el Hub de las Am\u00e9ricas\u00ae en\nPanam\u00e1, incluyan en su itinerario una estad\u00eda extendida en el pa\u00eds al momento\nde comprar su boleto, sin costo adicional en la tarifa a\u00e9rea.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdicionalmente, una de las acciones recientes m\u00e1s\nimportantes es la creaci\u00f3n del video de seguridad de Copa Airlines que es visto\na diario por miles de pasajeros que viajan en nuestras aeronaves. Esto, aunado\nal hecho de que este video tuvo un alcance en plataformas digitales de m\u00e1s de\n10 millones de impresiones, se ha convertido en una de las piezas de turismo\npaname\u00f1o m\u00e1s vistas en la historia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>De acuerdo\ncon su experiencia, \u00bfen qu\u00e9 lugares del interior ser\u00eda necesario tambi\u00e9n contar\ncon aeropuertos internacionales a parte de R\u00edo Hato y c\u00f3mo ayudar\u00eda a impulsar\nel turismo y negocios en nuestro pa\u00eds?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPanam\u00e1 es un pa\u00eds donde las distancias son\nrelativamente cortas, raz\u00f3n por la cual nuestros aeropuertos internacionales\nactuales pueden cubrir de forma eficaz toda la geograf\u00eda del pa\u00eds. Adicional,\ntenemos tambi\u00e9n una interesante red de aeropuertos regionales que complementan\nmuy bien la red internacional.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA corto plazo, la mayor oportunidad est\u00e1 en Bocas\ndel Toro, Isla Col\u00f3n, donde el gobierno reci\u00e9n anuncio una importante inversi\u00f3n\npara modernizar y expandir tan importante aeropuerto. Estoy seguro de que esta\ninversi\u00f3n ser\u00e1 de gran impacto en la industria tur\u00edstica de esa regi\u00f3n.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pedro_heilbron03.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7357\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfCu\u00e1les\nplanes a futuro tienen para apoyar el crecimiento y as\u00ed continuar fortaleciendo\nel turismo?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSeguimos trabajando muy de cerca con PROMTUR para promocionar el pa\u00eds como destino tur\u00edstico. Dentro de nuestros planes para 2022 est\u00e1 continuar con la campa\u00f1a de StopOver y seguir posicionando los atractivos de Panam\u00e1 a nivel internacional, utilizando nuestros extensos medios digitales, para atraer m\u00e1s turistas al pa\u00eds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDe igual forma en este a\u00f1o reiniciamos las\ncaravanas tur\u00edsticas, en donde nos enfocaremos en el mercado de Estados Unidos y\nnos reuniremos con los principales agentes de viajes y mayoristas para\npresentarles los atractivos de Panam\u00e1.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPor otra parte, seguimos en una fuerte labor en\ntoda Am\u00e9rica con nuestra red de mayoristas, ofreciendo tarifas de descuento\nexclusivas para crear competitivos paquetes vacacionales hac\u00eda Panam\u00e1.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdicional a todo esto, apoyamos activamente las\ndiferentes iniciativas que traen agentes de viajes al pa\u00eds, como las ferias de\nturismo, viajes de familiarizaci\u00f3n e iniciativas de entrenamiento, buscando que\nlos asistentes traigan el mayor impacto posible al posicionamiento del pa\u00eds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 trabajo realizan\npara apoyar a los operadores de turismo nacionales?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTenemos\nuna relaci\u00f3n de muchos a\u00f1os con los principales mayoristas del pa\u00eds, con\nquienes trabajamos de la mano creando productos tur\u00edsticos y facilitando la\nllegada de turistas y visitantes al pa\u00eds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTambi\u00e9n est\u00e1n\nlos descuentos que les ofrecemos para que puedan participar en eventos\ninternacionales y ferias de la regi\u00f3n en b\u00fasqueda de nuevos clientes.\nAdicionalmente, los invitamos a formar parte de las caravanas tur\u00edsticas que se\norganizan con PROMTUR para que puedan hacer conexiones con agentes de viajes y\nofrecer sus productos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"730\" height=\"29\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/english-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7412\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2>Peter Heilbron:  <strong>\u201cTo retain our leadership in connectivity, we must promote competitiveness\u201d <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur special guest in this edition is an outstanding Panamanian\nprofessional who has managed to transform and promote aviation throughout the\nregion. Likewise, he has been a key player in the growth of the Tocumen airport\nas the &#8220;hub&#8221; of the Americas and our Panamanian tourism. Graduated\nfrom College of the Holy Cross in Worcester Massachusetts, with a bachelor&#8217;s\ndegree in economics and from the University of Washington with a Master&#8217;s\ndegree in business administration, Pedro Heilbron managed to convert an airline\nof only two aircrafts in 1988 to one with 111 of the most modern passenger\naircraft today. Our guest is full of international accolades and in this\ninterview he talks about his perspective of the aviation and national tourism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Being the leader of the fastest growing airline in the region, what\nstrategy would Panama employ to achieve greater leadership in continental\naviation?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe airline industry in our region has become much more competitive\nsince the start of the pandemic. In this sense, we have seen an increase in\npoint-to-point flights that compete with Panama, by avoiding the need to make\nconnections in hubs such as the one we operate at Tocumen International Airport.\nAlso, competing hubs in the region carry out important investments to improve\ntheir positioning.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn order for Panama to retain its leadership in connectivity and ensure\nthat aviation, including tourism that arrives by air, once again can contributes\nwith more than 14% of the GDP, it is essential to promote a competitive airline\nindustry, ensure an attractive and efficient Tocumen Airport, and carry out\nactions to increase the arrival of tourists and business travelers to the\ncountry.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ticket prices on flights defines the new groups of people who visit the\ndifferent destinations. As COPA also owns Wingo, and soon a new airline is\ncoming, what is the future of this new segment and how will they face the\ncompetition? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth Copa and Wingo are subsidiaries of Copa Holdings and both are\nmanaged independently.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt Copa Airlines, we have a clear strategy that allows us to compete\nsuccessfully. As part of this strategy, we try to operate with the lowest\npossible costs, promoting the search for efficiencies and productivity in\neverything we do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\n\u201cOn the other hand, we are also obsessive about On Time Flights and compliance.\nA reflection of this is that in 2021 we were the most on time airline in the Americas,\nfor the 8th consecutive year. This, combined with our extensive network of\nroutes at the Hub of the Americas in Panama, has allowed us to be the preferred\nairline for millions of passengers in the American Continent.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor its part, Wingo is an ultra-low-cost airline, but at the same time it stands out for its good vibes, something that has earned the preference of a lot of passengers. As I mentioned before, Wingo is managed independently from Copa and has an attractive offer based on its rates and destinations.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"641\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/pedro_heilbron02-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7358\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What plans does COPA has to support the sustainable tourism strategy\nthat ATP is putting into action? And if you are already doing it, what have you\nbeen doing? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have worked for many years consistently with the Tourism Authorities\nand, now, also with PROMTUR to promote Panama as a tourist destination.\nCurrently, we have an important investment with the STOPOVER program in Panama,\nwhich offers an incentive for thousands of passengers who transit annually\nthrough the Hub of the Americas\u00ae, which includes an extended stay in the country\nin their itinerary when buying a ticket, at no additional cost in the airfare.\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, one of the most important recent actions is the creation\nof the Copa Airlines safety video that is watched daily by thousands of\npassengers who travel on our aircraft. This, coupled with the fact that this\nvideo had a reach on digital platforms of more than 10 million views, and has\nbecome one of the most viewed videos of Panamanian tourism in history.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>According to your experience, in which places in the interior would it also be necessary to have international airports apart from Rio Hato and how would it help boost tourism and business in our country? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPanama is a country where distances are relatively short, which is why\nour current international airports can effectively cover the entire geography\nof the country. Additionally, we also have a good network of regional airports\nthat complement the international ones very well.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the short term, the greatest opportunity is in Bocas del Toro, Isla\nColon, where the government recently announced a major investment to modernize\nand expand such an important airport. I am sure that this investment will have\na great impact on the tourism industry in that region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What future plans do you have to support growth and thus continue to\nstrengthen tourism?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe continue to work closely with PROMTUR to promote the country as a\ntourist destination.
