En Panam\u00e1, como en muchos pa\u00edses de\nLatinoam\u00e9rica, se practica la costumbre de visitar siete iglesias durante\nSemana Santa que empieza en la vigilia del Jueves Santo luego de la misa\nvespertina de la cena del se\u00f1or. &nbsp;El\nnumero de monumentos religiosos que posee es amplio y cada uno tiene una\nhistoria que enriquece este sector que es uno de los favoritos entre los\nturistas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Catedral Bas\u00edlica Santa Mar\u00eda La Antigua<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n conocida como Catedral Metropolitana; fue la primera\nedificaci\u00f3n construida para la fe cat\u00f3lica en el istmo que conecta el norte con\nel sur de Am\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Su ubicaci\u00f3n inicial era&nbsp;Santa Mar\u00eda La Antigua del\nDari\u00e9n, pero en 1520 fue mudada a Panam\u00e1 Viejo. A los 24 a\u00f1os de funcionamiento\nen ese territorio se quema en 1644 y su reconstrucci\u00f3n finaliz\u00f3 en 1652. El\nfuego la volvi\u00f3 a alcanzar durante el saqueo de los piratas a la ciudad en\n1671, pero renace cuando en 1674 fue una de las primeras edificaciones en\nfuncionar tras la reconstrucci\u00f3n de la ciudad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La edificaci\u00f3n a\u00fan conserva objetos de la Iglesia Santa Mar\u00eda\nLa Antigua de Dari\u00e9n y sus torres llegaron a ser las m\u00e1s altas de Latinoam\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/casco_antiguo03.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7376\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iglesia Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de La Merced<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fue la \u00fanica iglesia de Panam\u00e1 la Vieja que no se quem\u00f3\ndurante el saqueo de los piratas en 1671. Esto producto de que era el cuartel\ndel&nbsp;pirata Herny Morgan&nbsp;y este lo protegi\u00f3 de las llamas. Con la construcci\u00f3n\ndel Casco Antiguo en 1680, fue llevada piedra por piedra hasta su nueva\nubicaci\u00f3n. A\u00fan mantiene su fachada inicial, sus columnas de madera y su techo\noriginal colonial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tiene dos capillas: una dedicada a la Virgen de la Capilla,\nantes de quincha; y la otra que funciona como Mausoleo. Sus cuatro campanas\nllevan los nombres: San Serapio, Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Merced, San Pedro Nolasco\ny San Ram\u00f3n Nonato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adentro hay un museo con documentos y objetos religiosos y tiene\nun cuadro que data de la \u00e9poca del Panam\u00e1 Viejo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iglesia de San Jos\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naci\u00f3 en Panam\u00e1 Viejo en el a\u00f1o 1612 y quemada durante el\nataque de los piratas en 1671. Luego se construy\u00f3 entre 1671 y 1675 como una\nIglesia Colonial en la nueva ciudad. Es reconocida incluso mundialmente por su\naltar barroco labrado en caoba y recubierto de oro en 1915.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un Fray cubri\u00f3 el altar con albayalde que es un oxido de\nplata que ti\u00f1e de negro el oro y el pirata Morgan lleg\u00f3 al lugar y no lo saque\u00f3,\nm\u00e1s bien le dio una limosna al Fray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iglesia de San Francisco de As\u00eds<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La estructura fue construida en el siglo XVII y casi\ndestruida por los incendios de 1737 y 1756. Fue renovada casi en su totalidad\nen 1918, desde ese momento cuenta con la estructura actual. A pesar de las\nremodelaciones con materiales actuales, mantiene los cimientos originales,\nalgunos elementos y paredes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estas instalaciones tambi\u00e9n sirvieron de cuartel general,\nhospital del Congreso Anficti\u00f3nico, colegio agustino y el Instituto Bol\u00edvar.\nPor si fuera poco, fue aqu\u00ed donde se reuni\u00f3 la primera Asamblea Constituyente.\nEn la sala capitular del convento, se celebr\u00f3 el Congreso Anficti\u00f3nico\nconvocado por Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar para aprobar los protocolos del istmo dentro de la\nGran Colombia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/casco_antiguo04.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7377\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iglesia de San Felipe Neri<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Su construcci\u00f3n data de 1688, mucho despu\u00e9s de la reubicaci\u00f3n\nde la ciudad a su nueva ubicaci\u00f3n y luego de la toma, incendio y saqueo de\nPanam\u00e1 la Vieja por el pirata Henry Morgan en 1671.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Su entrada principal est\u00e1 tapada por colegio y para entrar\nhay que acceder por una puerta lateral de vidrio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Iglesia Santa Ana<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La iglesia Santa Ana es la \u00fanica que, perteneciendo al Casco\nAntiguo, no est\u00e1 dentro de sus muros, sino que su entrada est\u00e1 por fuera. La\nconstruy\u00f3 el Conde de Santa Ana con fondos propios y fue finalmente consagrada\nen 1764.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sufri\u00f3 un incendio en 1854 y posteriormente reconstruida.\nOtras remodelaciones se realizaron en el siglo XX que le dio la apariencia\nactual y que incluyeron elementos para disfrutar tambi\u00e9n de la modernidad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Capilla Juan Pablo II<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n conocida como Capilla de la Presidencia, se consagr\u00f3\nel 1ero de noviembre de 2014. A pesar de tener capacidad para 192 personas, es\n\u00fanicamente para el uso presidencial. Aunque su acceso es restringido, los d\u00edas\njueves y viernes santos, de acuerdo a la disposici\u00f3n de las autoridades, se\npuede visitar en el marco del tradicional recorrido de las siete iglesias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"730\" height=\"29\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/english-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7412\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>The Seven Historical Churches in Casco Antiguo that Enrich Panama&#8217;s Culture<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Casco Antiguo is a World Heritage Site and has an\nunparalleled wealth, which preserves in its avenues part of the history that\nmakes up the cultural backbone of our country. In Panama, as in many Latin\nAmerican countries, visiting seven churches during Holy Week is part of the\nculture, beginning on the eve of Holy Thursday after the evening mass of the\nLord&#8217;s Supper. The number of religious monuments that Casco Antiguo and their\nhistory makes this sector in Panama City one of the favorites among tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cathedral Basilica Santa Maria La Antigua<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also known as Metropolitan Cathedral; It was the first\nbuilding built for the Catholic faith on the isthmus that connects North and\nSouth America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its initial location was Santa Maria La Antigua del\nDarien, but in 1520 it was moved to Panama Viejo. After 24 years of operation in that territory, it\nburned in 1644 and its reconstruction was completed in 1652. The fire reached\nit again during the pirates&#8217; looting of the city in 1671, but it was rebuilt\nwhen in 1674 it was one of the first buildings in function after the\nreconstruction of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building still preserves objects from the Santa Maria La Antigua de Darien\nChurch and its towers were used to be the tallest building in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/casco_antiguo05.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7378\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de La Merced<\/strong><strong> Church<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the only church in Old Panama that did not burn\ndown during the looting by pirates in 1671. This was due to the fact that it\nwas the headquarters of the pirate Herny Morgan who protected it from the\nflames. With the construction of the Old Town in 1680, it was carried stone by\nstone to its new location. It still maintains its original fa\u00e7ade, its wooden\ncolumns and its original colonial roof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has two chapels: one dedicated to Virgen de la\nCapilla, before the \u201cquincha\u201d;\nand the other that works as a Mausoleum. Its four bells bear the names: San\nSerapio, Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Merced, San Pedro Nolasco and San Ramon Nonato. Inside there\nis a museum with documents and religious objects and it has a painting that\ndates back to the time of Old Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>San Jose Church<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was built in Panama Viejo in 1612 and burned during\nthe pirate attack in 1671. It was later built between 1671 and 1675 as a\nColonial Church in the new city. It is even recognized worldwide for its\nbaroque altar carved in mahogany and covered in gold in 1915.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Fray covered the altar with white lead, which is a\nsilver oxide that stains gold black, and the pirate Morgan arrived at the place\nand did not loot it, rather he gave the Fray an alms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>San Francisco de Asis Church<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure was built in the 17th century and almost\ndestroyed by the fires of 1737 and 1756. It was almost completely renovated in\n1918, since then it has the current structure. Despite the renovations with\ncurrent materials, it maintains the original foundations, some elements and\nwalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These facilities also served as the headquarters,\nhospital of the Amphictyonic Congress, Augustinian school and the Bolivar\nInstitute. As if that were not enough, it was here that the first Constituent\nAssembly met. In the chapter house of the convent, the Amphictyonic Congress\ncalled by Simon Bolivar was held to approve the protocols of the isthmus within\nla Gran Colombia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/casco_antiguo02.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7379\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>San Felipe Neri Church<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its construction dates back to 1688, long after the\nrelocation of the city to its new site and after the taking, burning and\nlooting of Old Panama by the pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. Its main entrance is\ncovered by a school and to enter you have to go through a side glass door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Santa Ana Church<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Santa Ana church is the only one belonging to Casco\nAntiguo, is was not inside its walls, its entrance is outside. It was built by\nthe Count of Santa Ana with his own funds and was finally consecrated in 1764.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It burned by fire in 1854 and was later rebuilt. Other\nrenovations were carried out in the 20th century, which gave it its current\nappearance and included elements of modernity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Juan Pablo II Chapel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also known as the Chapel of the Presidency, it was\nconsecrated on November 1, 2014. Despite having capacity for 192 people, it is\nonly for presidential use.
