One element that directly supports a country’s tourism development is its internal connectivity, facilitating quick travel between destinations for visitors. The country has been working on this issue, however, there is still a long way to go. For this reason, our Special Guest is a professional with over 30 years of experience leading domestic commercial airlines such as Aeroperlas and, for the past 22 years, AirPanama. His passion for aviation began at a young age when he lived right at the end of the runway of the old Paitilla airport in Panama City. Today, Eduardo Stagg shares his vision of aviation as an inseparable partner of tourism and how it can boost its development in an exclusive interview with The Visitor – El Visitante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is it so important for Panama to expand the number of tourist destinations accessible by plane?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Several reasons. First, many tourist destinations in our country are islands. Second, others are far from the capital, where most tourists arrive. Third, visitors come on vacation and want to make the most of their time in the country, and flights are considerably faster, allowing less time on the road and more time at the tourist destination. The more destinations served by air, the more options tourists will have to choose from when visiting our country, because, as we said, tourists want to arrive at their destination as quickly as possible\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can air travel enhance the tourist experience in Panama throughout the country?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Besides being faster and more convenient for many tourists, air travel gives them the opportunity to see the country from a different perspective, such as flying over iconic landmarks like the Panama Canal, Panama City, many islands, the rainforest, and the final destination itself\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do we need to develop in order for air connectivity to attract more foreign visitors?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We need to expand and improve local airports, which currently serve their purpose, but are reaching their passenger capacity. To ensure a positive experience, it’s also crucial to redesign them to enhance the Visitor’s experience and benefit other passengers\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can AirPanama do within the tourism industry to generate greater value for Panamanian tourism?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“AirPanama works daily to provide air connectivity and stays attentive to the service needs and capacity demands of each destination. We maintain constant contact with tour operators, Tourism Authority, the Civil Aviation Authority, various Chambers of Commerce, other airlines, and so on\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What innovations and expansion plans does AirPanama have for the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our company is dynamic. The aviation industry demands that we stay up-to-date with technology and responsive to service needs, meeting market demands. We are currently migrating to a fleet of larger, faster aircraft to serve the most popular destinations. This will allow more tourists to visit these places. Additionally, we are about to reactivate or launch some international routes, such as David to San Jose, Costa Rica, and Panama City to Monteria, Colombia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
