This destination\nis a natural body of salt water, surrounded by mangrove forests, Cristobal\nIsland and the mainland, and connected, through various channels, with\nAlmirante Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This place is an Eden for these nice and friendly\nbottlenose dolphins during most of the year, where you can have a greater\nnumber of sightings and interaction, attracting boat tours with Visitors from\nall over the world who stop in this area. The best time to watch dolphins is\nbetween June and July, when the waters are even more calmer in the bay.\nHowever, the dolphins are normally seen in pairs or in groups of five or six\nthat surround the boats that come to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2304\" height=\"1728\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Compress_20220926_232746_6877.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4924\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>An Ideal\nLocation for Dolphins<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolphin Bay is located between\nthe eastern side of Cristobal Island and an irregularly shaped mainland\npeninsula. It is located at a distance of approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles)\nfrom Isla Colon, a\n15-20 minutes boat\nride. At its widest point the bay measures 6 kilometers (4 miles).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bay has calm waters and is surrounded by\nmangroves, which contain an abundance of small fish and crustaceans, making\nthis bay the perfect habitat for dolphins, especially mothers and calves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1082\" height=\"850\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Compress_20220926_232744_4656.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4925\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Residents of\nthe Area<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two Ng\u00e4be communities live on\nthe shores of this bay, at opposite ends: Bocatorito and Buena Esperanza. In\nboth towns its inhabitants do fishing, agriculture and subsistence farming. You\ncan also see homes of other residents that are scattered along the coasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A wonderful Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the best activities that Visitors can enjoy is\nsimply marveling at the dolphins playing free in the sea, watching them jump\nand swim from one side to the other, and be on the lookout in the surroundings\nbecause you do not know where they will come out. The Bocas del Toro dolphin population\nis small, genetically unique, and highly faithful to its habitat, a combination\nthat makes it highly vulnerable to human activities in the area. For this\nreason, conservation groups have been carrying out awareness and education work\nto improve practices when visiting dolphins in the bay.
