It\noccupies the provinces of Panama and Colon and is one of the country&#8217;s most\neasily accessible protected areas, located just 25 kilometers from Panama City\nwith a \u200b\u200b19,525 hectares area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1050\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Compress_20220426_171421_1412.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4269\"\/><figcaption>Photo: Claudio Carrasco<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Soberania National Park was founded in 1980 after the\nPanama Canal Treaties came into effect (1979), and constitutes one of the basic\npillars for the operation and conservation of the Panama Canal basin. It is\nalso part of the interoceanic forest corridor next to the Canal, and\ncontributes to the uninterrupted flow of wildlife in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tropical\nForest Full of Life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Park has humid tropical\nforests and a habitat for more than 1,300 species of plants and 525 species of\nbirds. In addition, 105 species of mammals, 79 species of reptiles and 55\namphibians, among others, have been identified. Here you can find bird species\nsuch as the Pheasant Cuckoo, Macaws, the Slate-tailed Trogon, Iris-billed\nToucan, Momotides, Yellow-crowned Parrots, a Plain Xenops; Chocolate Nuthatch,\nvarious Pied Anteaters, Gorguianteado Hopper and Green Honeycreeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"700\" height=\"1050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Compress_20220426_171421_1772.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4271\"\/><figcaption>Photo: Claudio Carrasco<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trails and\nActivities to Enjoy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this protected natural area\nyou can enjoy a series of ecotourism activities that both local and foreign\nvisitors will love such as: hiking, bird watching, observation of waterfalls,\nwalks through rivers, flora observation, historical tourism and even cycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the main attractions at\nthe Soberania National Park are various trails of different lengths and degrees\nof difficulty:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1050\" height=\"591\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Compress_20220426_171421_1187.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4272\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Camino del\nOleoducto:<\/strong> Long known by biologists of the tropics, as Pipeline Road, it is\nwonderful for a walk at any time of the year, it is located at the end of Gamboa\nTown. Howler monkeys, trogons, toucans, morpho butterflies are regulars on this\ntrail. Bridges over streams in the woods are wonderful stops for a break and a\nbite to eat on the trail. You can also do the mountain bike tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Plantation\nRoad<\/strong>: it is a path with some hills, but easy to walk, it\nis 6.5 km long, the round trip is 13 km. Along the trail you can find remnants\nof cocoa trees, rubber and coffee plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sendero el\nCharco: <\/strong>It is for the whole family, it is only 1 km away,\nafter the Summit Municipal Park. The site has parking lots, a picnic area and a\nnatural pool to cool off from the heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other trails that this natural\npark has are the Camino de Cruces Trail, the Spirit of the Forest Trail and the\nCycle Route Trail: located between the Soberania and Camino de Cruces national\nparks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parque Nacional Soberania offers services such as: restrooms, camping areas, parking. It is located at the intersection of Avenida Gaillard and the entrance to Gamboa. Hours available are Monday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A natural wonder that our country has just minutes from Panama City.
