Their school has\nsewing machines available, 2 quilting machines, a\ncutting machine and all the tools and fabrics necessary to create beautiful\ntextile products. They make bed quilts, wall\nhangings, purses, table runners, placemats, aprons.&nbsp; All items are individually made with the\nstyle and color selection left up to the students.&nbsp; Their showroom features ready-made works for\nsale; special orders are common.&nbsp; Many\nstudents have developed a private clientele after years of beautiful work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"780\" height=\"1040\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4156\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides teaching sewing techniques, the school also offers local women a\nplace to enjoy the camaraderie\nof quilting friends, share ideas and support and encourage each other in their\nwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Helping Women\nBecome Independent Wage Earners<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their goal is helping women become independent wage earners, while\nworking from home while they care for their\nfamilies.&nbsp; This not-for-profit community\nservice project relies heavily on the support and generosity of Panamanians and\nexpats in the community.&nbsp; Over the past\n12 years, they have had the help of two Peace Corp volunteers, a grant from the\nSoroptomist International de Volcan to start the classes, classroom space donated\nby a local businessman, and the free help of dozens of expat volunteers.&nbsp; They have held classes in five locations and now have a safe school where they can teach, house\nthe necessary materials for quiltmaking, and exhibit their work.&nbsp; All the background work is done by a team of\nloyal volunteers and 3-4 paid Panamanian teachers who work daily with students.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"780\" height=\"1040\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4157\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Unique School\nin Panama to Learn Quilting and Sewing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past 12 years, this organization had taught over 2,000 women in\nChiriqui and Costa Rica to sew, quilt and sell their items to their clients and\nto visitors.&nbsp; They have exhibited at the\nNational Artisans Fair in Panama City for years and have mounted a museum\nquality exhibit for 8 years at the Boquete Library exhibition hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All their products are quilted, either on a home machine, a classroom\nmachine, or their 12&#8242; long-arm quilting machine.&nbsp; They use 100% cotton fabric to construct\ntheir quilts, teaching patterns both historic and modern.
