Golfo of Montijo is a Wetland Reserve, this jewel of\nnature is located in the southern part of Veraguas Province, in the districts\nof Montijo, Sona, Rio de\nJesus, Mariato and Santiago. It covers a total area of \u200b\u200b89,452 hectares\nbetween the sea and the land area. It is part of the so-called Eastern Tropical\nPacific Marine Corridor, a chain of protected marine areas that extends from\nCosta Rica to Ecuador, and was declared a Ramsar site in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great Wetland System<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Golfo de\nMontijo encompasses extensive complex coastal wetlands, estuaries, beaches,\nvarious species of mangroves, swamps, seasonally flooded grasslands, marine\nareas, and secondary forests that provide vital nesting areas for species of\nseabirds and migratory birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cebaco Island:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is the third largest island in the Panamanian Pacific after Coiba. It is a paradise for diving and whale watching lovers, who visit between the months of July and October. You can also enjoy activities such as snorkeling in Playa Caleta, as well as walks in the forest through ecological trails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tres Islas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a place of great natural and ecological beauty.\nThese are three small islands, close to each other, from where you can watch\nthe immensity of the Gulf. At low tide you can walk along large banks of\nemerging golden sand, rock pools and shallow waters, areas that are a wonder\nfor beach lovers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isla Leones:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This island is home to one of the best restaurants in\nthe area and where many tourist tours in the area stop for lunch. Their\nshellfish tray along with lobster is a well-known lunch throughout Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isla Perdomo:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bird watching can be done on this island, as it is a\nresting and nesting place for birds. You can watch frigate birds, brown\npelicans, neotropical cormorants, herons and many other birds that also breed\non this island. Early in the morning and almost at night, hundreds of birds can\nbe seen flying over this small island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Puerto Mutis:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 It is\nconsidered the gateway to Golfo de Montijo and the starting point to the\nparadisiacal islands on the Pacific side. You can also find several restaurants\nspecializing in seafood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gulf is full of beautiful places, as well as\nactivities to do. Most tour operators in the area offer Visitors a variety of\nactivities such as bird watching, snorkeling and deep-sea diving where a large\nnumber of marine species can be seen. Sport fishing is also an activity that\nvisitors from all over the world like very much due to the large number of fish\nthat this sector of Veraguas offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
