Folklore is not only the\ndances, it is the food, the games, the music, the new mother who gives birth in\nthe new hospital and remembers the stories of her mother when she came to the\nworld in the old hospital, it is the streets and the paths that give us a name\nand an identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Roots of the Celebration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/FOTO-MIL-POLLERAS3-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8229\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This important date for the cultural expressions of\neach country is commemorated in the historical moment in which the British\nprofessor and scientist William John Thombs used the word Folklore for the\nfirst time in a publication made in the newspaper the Athenaeum, when talking\nabout &#8220;popular antiquities\u201d, on August 22, 1846.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his honor, UNESCO declared that same day as the\n&#8220;World Folklore Day&#8221; in 1960, which is why the main festivals in the\nworld are organized in the month of August, especially in Spain, France,\nPortugal, Italy, the United States, Greece, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ETNIA-NEGRA-8-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8230\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Knowledge of the People<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Folklore encompasses themes related to peasant customs\nand traditions, regional, municipal and national festivities, agricultural\nfairs and indigenous festivals, typical foods, drinks and viands, folk tales\nand legends, rhymes, sayings and jokes, indigenous ceremonies, talismans and\namulets. magical, mystical and religious, patron saint festivities,\nsuperstitions, beliefs, recipes and botanical cures, music, songs, dances,\ndances, games and children&#8217;s rounds, handicrafts and crafts. For this reason,\nthe term folklore etymologically means &#8220;knowledge of the people.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Folklore in Panama<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thevisitorpanama.info\/esp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/FOTO-ETENIA-NEGRA-CINCO-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8231\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In Panama the term became popular thanks to the fact\nthat Professor Manuel F.
