What is now a tourist attraction boasting a valuable ecosystem had very different origins. Roughly four decades ago, the lake was created as an artificial reservoir to supply irrigation water for the region’s sugarcane crops. For years, it served this purpose, playing a key role in the agricultural development of Veraguas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A New Vision: Environmental Conservation and Tourism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

About twenty years ago, the Spiegel family acquired the properties surrounding the lake and subsequently obtained ownership of 80% of the 14-hectare area occupied by the lake itself, while the remaining 20% \u200b\u200bbelongs to La Victoria Sugar Mill. From that moment, a different vision emerged: to protect this natural environment and transform it into a space where environmental conservation and tourism could develop responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The waters of Lago Limon are home to various freshwater fish species\u2014including tilapia, sargento, and colosoma, among others\u2014that have found ideal conditions to thrive in this environment.
