On September 16, the Sheraton Grand Panama Hotel will host the Tourism Forum 2026, organized by the Panamanian Hotel Association (APATEL). From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., business leaders, hoteliers, officials, academics, and national and international specialists will analyze the trends redefining the tourism industry and the opportunities to strengthen Panama\u2019s position as a competitive, sustainable, and innovative destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than just a conference, the forum is designed as a platform for knowledge exchange and the creation of strategic alliances. The program will address key topics such as community-based tourism, the evolving traveler profile, digital transformation, tourism marketing, sustainability, and regenerative tourism, as well as the role of gastronomy and cultural identity as drivers of economic and social development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to provide tools and experiences that enable various sector stakeholders to adapt to a constantly evolving market, where innovation and authenticity have become decisive factors in attracting visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chef Francisco Castro\u2014a renowned culinary entrepreneur, educator, and founder of Mercaito\u2014will share his insights on culinary innovation and the importance of reviving traditional flavors through a contemporary lens. His work has centered on fostering local talent and strengthening Panama’s culinary identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chef Domingo de Obaldia Jr., Culinary Director at El Trapiche, will also participate; he brings 26 years of experience across the hospitality, culinary, and tourism sectors. After building an international career with chains such as Sandals, Hyatt, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, and Disney, he returned to Panama to carry on the legacy of one of the country\u2019s most iconic restaurants. In addition to leading culinary development at El Trapiche, he oversees its public relations and marketing strategies, promoting the preservation of traditional Panamanian cuisine through innovation and the use of native ingredients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
